Barcelona received some of the best players in the world for its annual tournament : BWF World Tour 300.
Tournament's shock
Following a busy European Mixed Team Championships, some surprises occurred at the beginning of the Spanish tournament: The French pair Them Giquel/Delphine Delrue beat the Danish Mixed Doubles pair Mathias Christiansen/Christinna Pedersen in straight games. The two pairs met for the 1st time during last week's EMTC 2019 and the Danish showed a strong performance and beat the Frenchies 21-9, 21-9. This time, the young French pair had their revenge 21-14, 21-14.
Tough defeats
Some pairs couldn't find a way to reach the finals. The Stoeva sisters and 1st seed were beaten after a long match of 1:17 by a Korean pair Kim/Kong. 21-19 18-21 21-17.
Same scenario for the British pair Ellis/Smith. They were not able to go through the next and final round of the Barcelona Spain Masters. After a close match, they lost 14-21 21-13 21-19 to another Korean pair, 3rd seed, Seo/Chae.
The Danish men's doubles from Denmark Boe/Mogensen also had to accept their tough defeat in Semi finals. The current world rank number 20 lost against Lee/Wang from Chinese Taipei after a tense match. (21-16, 26-24) "We are, of course, very disappointed. All in all it was an okay performance, but it is never fun to lose" Mathias Boe said after the match
Danish power
After their victory in Copenhagen last week, the danish players showed some strong performances in front of the crowd of Barcelona.
Both Men's and Women's Singles finals of the Barcelona Spain Masters was Danish today.
Viktor Axelsen beat Anders Antonsen in straight games: 21-14, 21-11.
"I think I played close to my highest level today. I am really satisfied and happy right now" Viktor said after the match. "Today, I will celebrate. And starting on Tuesday, I will prepare for the upcoming All England", he added.
Anders Antonsen is the runner-up of this tournament. "Not the spot on the podium I had hoped for... Didn't really stand a chance today against a well playing Viktor Axelsen." He said on an Instagram post. "I'm happy to have reach my second final in a row!"
Indeed, the 21 year old Dane seems to be in great shape lately. His last final was in Jakarta and he managed to win against the No1 Kento Momota. For now, it is without any doubt, the most important win of his career.
For the girls, Mia Blichfeldt won against Line Kjearsfelt in straight games: 21-14, 21-14.
After being the runner-up of the same tournament last year, Mia managed to reach the top of the podium today and win the BWF World Tour 300 tournament.
"I did not play any tournaments in January, so I am very motivated to play now. I am happy that I won this time, Line played well today", Mia said after the match.
Other matches
Mixed doubles : The Korean pair Seo/Chea won their first title and beat a pair from Chinese Taipei, Wang/Cheng in straight games : 21-18, 21-15.
Women's Doubles : It's another pair from Korea who won the title in Barcelona today. Kim So Yeong and Kong Here Yong beat a better ranked pair from Japan, Matsuyama/Shida (No13)
23-21, 15-21 21-17.
Men's Doubles : The pair from Chinese Taipei Lee/Wang won against Kim/Seo and put a stop to Korea to win another title : 21-8 23-21.

Barcelone a reçu certains des meilleurs joueurs du monde pour son tournoi annuel: le BWF World Tour 300.
Le choc du tournoi
Après les championnats d'Europe par équipes mixtes, des surprises ont déjà chamboulé le tournoi espagnol: la paire française Thom Giquel / Delphine Delrue a battu au 1e tour la paire danoise Mathias Christiansen / Christinna Pedersen en deux sets. Les deux paires se sont rencontrés pour la première fois lors des CEEM 2019 de la semaine dernière et les Danoises avaient eu l'avantage de l'expérience et avaient battu les Frenchies 21-9, 21-9. Cette fois, les jeunes français ont eu leur revanche, 21-14, 21-14.
Défaites difficiles
Certaines paires ont échoué aux portes de la finale. Les sœurs Stoeva, têtes de série 1, ont été battues après un long match de 1h17 par la paire coréenne Kim / Kong. 21-19 18-21 21-17.
Même scénario pour les britanniques Ellis / Smith. Ces derniers n'ont pas pu atteindre la finale du Barcelona Spain Masters. Après un match serré, ils ont perdu 14-21, 21-13, 21-19 contre une autre paire coréenne, tête de série 3, Seo / Chae.
Le double danois danois Boe / Mogensen a également dû accepter une défaite difficile en demi-finale. Les anciens n°1 et actuels n°20 mondiaux ont perdu contre Lee / Wang de Taipei, après un match tendu. (21-16, 26-24) "Nous sommes bien sûr très déçus. Dans l'ensemble, la performance était bonne, mais perdre n'est jamais plaisant", a déclaré Mathias Boe après le match.
"Danish power"
Après leur victoire à Copenhague la semaine dernière, les joueurs danois ont montré de bonnes performances devant le public de Barcelone.
Viktor Axelsen a battu Anders Antonsen en 2 sets: 21-14, 21-11.
"Je pense avoir joué proche de mon plus haut niveau aujourd'hui. Je suis vraiment satisfait et heureux en ce moment", a déclaré Viktor à l'issue du match. "Aujourd'hui, je vais fêter ça. Et à partir de mardi, je vais me préparer pour le All England", a-t-il ajouté.
Anders Antonsen termine finaliste de ce tournoi. "Ce n’était pas la place du podium que j'avais espéré ... J'ai eu des difficultés à rivaliser face à un très bon Viktor Axelsen." A t-il dit dans un post Instagram. "Je suis content d'avoir atteint ma deuxième finale consécutive!"
En effet, le Danois de 21 ans semble être en pleine forme ces derniers temps. Sa dernière finale était à Jakarta fin janvier dernier pendant laquelle il a réussi à battre le n ° 1 mondial, Kento Momota. Pour l’instant, c’est sans aucun doute la plus importante victoire de sa carrière.
Du côté des filles, Mia Blichfeldt a battu Line Kjearsfelt en 2 sets : 21-14, 21-14.
Après avoir été finaliste du même tournoi l'an dernier, Mia a réussi à atteindre le sommet du podium aujourd'hui et à remporter le titre qu'elle attendait tant.
"Je n'ai participé à aucun tournoi en janvier, donc je suis très en forme et très motivée. Je suis heureuse d'avoir gagné cette fois, Line a bien joué aujourd'hui", a déclaré Mia après le match.

Double mixte : La paire coréenne Seo / Chea a remporté son premier titre en battant une paire de Taipei Wang / Cheng en 2 sets: 21-18, 21-15.
Double Dames : C'est une autre paire coréenne qui a remporté le titre à Barcelone aujourd'hui. Kim So Yeong et Kong Here Yong ont battu une paire mieux classée du Japon, Matsuyama / Shida (No13) 23-21, 15-21, 21-17.
Double Hommes : La paire de Taipei Lee / Wang a vaincu Kim / Seo : 21-8 23-21.
